The house we live in now only needs the huge letters on the nearby mountain, "Hollywood". The weather in the day time is mid 70's and at night in the high 50's. We live in Quito suburbs where you can find 3 bedroom townhouses from 150.00 on up that would allow a lot more people to enjoy their live style a whole lot more.
We will be moving in January to a house that is a two bedroom, two bath, one story house with a pool and studio. It is landscaped and surrounded with a security wall that will be just awesome for our standard poodle entourage that follows us everywhere we go.
We originally were considering Cuenca as our final destination after reading the Forbes retirement article about Ecuador. I have visited Cuenca recently and it is a beautiful city, small and clean. The streets are cobbles and the sidewalks are narrow. There are lots of expats living there and it is hard not to bump into an expat when visiting the city. Ed and I arrived in Quito and were planning to move on but decided that the weather here was excellent and the altitude was fine for us being from Denver, so we have planted ourselves for a while and think we made a great decision. We are more interested in being part of Ecuador as expats instead of expats in Ecuador.
We have explored local extinct volcano's and been the guest of the organic hostel in the middle of it. Temple del Sol (temple of the sun) is a wonderful half day trip which shows you where the Aztec honored the sun. The mountain in front of the house we live in has been conquered and we have found other communities that are an exciting bus ride home!
Can I ever get tired of Ecuador? I highly doubt it with its jungles, mountains and coastline. I think even though it is the size of Colorado, it has more than its share of sights and tastes and opportunities.
Have you ever considered Ecuador for Retirement? Why not?
This is one of the many gothic cathedrals in Quito, you can enjoy a double decker bus tour for $12.00 that takes about three hours unless you decide to get off to sight see, then you can catch the next bus to continue your city exploration . It has a lot of points of interest and it really worth the price.
Okay, I lied, we have a Schnauzer too! Our Ecuadorian family portrait including (starting on the left side), Lilly Lou, Kito on Ed's lap, Aiden the Schnauzer, on my lap is Sharkey Barkey and on the lawn is Tootsie Toes our Newfoundland/Poodle mix.
How can you not love this street? Clean and just as cute as can be. The window balconies usually have geraniums on them. It seems I downloaded the only picture without flowers! I don't know that it would be nice having a tour bus coming through every hour on the hour, but again, it is just amazing how well they keep up their housing.
Middle of the World Monument, I had so much fun photographing this with me squeezing the ball on the top. Checkmate~! Ed failed to see my humor.
This is our house behind the wall, most houses and developments have walls or security here.
This is a snap shot of our front of our house. It has lots of light and lots of balconies.
This is the shot of the side yard... yes that is our awesome pool. We love it.
Why Ecuador? Why not?
